In this episode of 12-Minute Convos with Jesus Believers, Engel Jones connects with author and missionary George Calleja, joining the program from the historic Mediterranean island of Malta, where the Apostle Paul was once shipwrecked. Raised in a traditional Catholic home, George describes how his faith weakened during his teenage years in the 1980s as he became absorbed in popular music and the local disco scene. Everything changed at age 24 when he attended a Charismatic Renewal prayer meeting. Sitting at the back of the room trying to look cool and laughing, the speaker suddenly called him to the front and asked what he wanted from the group. George blurted out a prayer that would define his life: Give me something better than a disco. God answered that prayer in abundance. George stepped out in faith, leaving a stable office job to spend six years in full-time mission work across Europe. He learned to perform street mimes, played football with street children, and even embarked on a daring mission into the USSR just months before its collapse, smuggling 500 Bibles and vital medicines for children in need. After completing his mission years, George met his wife at a Christian music concert, married at 33, and raised two children.

Today, though still a shy introvert in everyday settings, George becomes bold whenever he shares the love of Jesus. If you have ever felt too shy to share your faith, wondered if God can give you something better than the world offers, or searched for your true purpose, George's joy-filled testimony will deeply inspire your walk today!
