In this episode of 12-Minute Convos with Jesus Believers, Engel Jones connects with Maria Ferreira, joining the program from Klover, a small town in the Western Cape of South Africa. Maria accepted Jesus as a child around six years old, but her personal relationship with Christ truly deepened at age twenty-two. After leaving school, Maria dreamed of becoming a nurse, but she was turned down due to scoliosis and osteoporosis, as her spine could not endure picking up heavy patients or standing for long hours. Refusing to let physical limitations derail her calling, Maria discovered the medical missionary movement through the Seventh-day Adventist Church, pursued Christian counseling studies, and officially registered Beehive Lifestyle Ministry in 2020.
Navigating severe financial hardships, living on a disability grant, and residing in temporary shelters, Maria holds tightly to her favorite motto: "slow progress is still progress". Though she conducts most of her counseling and ministry work online, she uses her everyday outings as an opportunity to share the Gospel. Simply wearing her ministry uniform while running errands prompts curious passersby to ask questions, opening doors for her to offer prayers of hope and encouragement. I am passionate about serving God, promoting healthy living, and using my gifts and experiences to inspire and encourage others.
My journey in health ministry began with completing Medical Missionary Module 1 in 2011, followed by Module 2 in 2015. In 2019, I launched The Beehive Lifestyle Ministries, which was officially registered in April 2020. Through this ministry, I am committed to sharing practical knowledge and encouraging people toward healthier and more purposeful lives.
I also serve as a CEO for Mannatec, where I work with associations in 40 countries around the world to distribute glycan technology. In addition, I am a distributor for Annique Health and Skin Care Products, allowing me to further promote health and wellness through quality products.
My passion for learning and ministry has also led me into theological studies. I began studying at the South African Theological Seminary in 2011 and continue to pursue my studies. I am currently nearing completion of the Christian Life Certificate, which forms the foundation of my first year of theological studies.
Writing is another passion close to my heart. I participate in the annual NaNoWriMo novel-writing competition whenever I can and have published several e-books through Smashwords, many of which I continue to edit and improve. I am currently working on a plant-based cooking book titled The Beehive Plant-Based Recipe Book, combining my love for healthy living, writing, and practical wellness.
I am a member of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, and my faith continues to be an important part of both my personal life and ministry.
